About Bobby Chhabra - Chief Medical Officer of Surgical Services at University of Virginia Health Systems
An orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in hand and upper extremity surgery, Bobby Chhabra currently splits his time between various teaching and clinical responsibilities at the University of Virginia. With more than a decade of experience in his field, Dr. Chhabra began his clinical training following graduation from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1995. Remaining at UVA, Bobby Chhabra completed a general surgery internship, general surgery residency, postdoctoral research fellowship, and four-year residency in orthopaedic surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics. After a yearlong fellowship in hand, microvascular, and congenital hand surgery at the Hand Center of San Antonio, Dr. Chhabra returned to Virginia to commence a tenure-track teaching position and practice in the UVA Health System.
Since then, Bobby Chhabra has ascended through assistant, associate to full professor and currently is the Lillian T. Pratt Distinguished Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia.
Aside from his work at UVA, Bobby Chhabra plays an active role in regional and national medical organizations, serving in the past as a Council Member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, holding fellowship in both the American Orthopaedic Association and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and sitting in numerous elected positions in the Virginia Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Chhabra also contributes and edits articles for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of Hand Surgery, among other peer-reviewed journals, books, and publications.
